Hawaii Insurance License

Obtaining a Hawaii insurance license is the first step towards becoming an insurance agent in Hawaii. Life insurance, car insurance, home insurance, or business insurance requires a license to sell in any state. Below you can find answers to all your questions about the Hawaii insurance license lookup.

How do I get an insurance license in Hawaii?

Before you can get your insurance license, which is a requirement for appearing on the state of Hawaii insurance license search, you must complete a pre-licensing course. The Hawaii Insurance Division accepts all insurance pre-licensing courses offered by Insurance License Express.

You can obtain a Certificate of Completion after you have completed your Hawaii insurance pre-licensing course. The course is valid for one year from the date you completed it. You must pass your Hawaii insurance license exam within one year of completing the course in order to get listed on the Hawaii Department of insurance license lookup.

The state exam for licensing is provided by Pearson VUE. You will be required to pay the exam fee using a credit card, debit card, voucher, or electronic check when you make your reservation. So you can book your exam online, by phone, or fax:

For booking an online exam visit the site or call (800) 274-2608.

You must bring two forms of valid signature identification, including:

A primary ID that includes a photograph and signature, a driver’s license, passport, or military ID. A debit or credit card that includes your signature and has not expired.

The exam consists of a general section covering basic knowledge of insurance products and a state section covering Hawaii’s insurance laws, legislation, rules, and practices.

The minimum passing score for the exam is 75. Depending on when NIPR receives the results of your exam, you must wait up to three (3) business days after passing the exam to apply for the license.
